Austin Olympics

Project Type

Mixed media branding

Date

December 2023

If the Olympics were held in your hometown, how would you design it? I wasn't technically born in Austin, but close enough. This was a project for a class in my fourth year in college. I designed the logo around the Olympics branding guide so that definitely made it harder having such rigid parameters. The guitar was because Austin is the live music capital of the world, and burnt orange for the colors of UT (Austin), a star for the Texas flag, and because capitols are typically marked on a map by a star. The turquoise was somewhat inspired by the southwest and because of Lady Bird Lake which wraps around the city. And the green was supposed to symbolize the nature that Austin is so renowned for, but I realized if I put it between the burnt orange and the turquoise that it was similar to the turquoise being set to multiply. I made sure that the star and the neck of the guitar aligned but it was really hard to figure out the placement of the rings in the logo.  I really wanted the rings to line up with the circle in the base of an acoustic guitar, but it just wouldn't have worked out with the placement of the star and the text.
